PAW*23 - Lampshade Bucket Hat
PAW*23 - Lampshade Bucket Hat
The Lampshade bucket hat. This hat was initially inspired by older-style classic fisherman hats, which feature a wider brim to keep the water out of the eyes and a chin strap to keep the hat fastened while on the water. I enjoyed this general aesthetic so I kept the idea of a wider brim, but made my hat in the style of a bucket hat, with layered tassels to replace the chin strap. This is in an attempt to more accurately represent my style by accenting the wearer in motion. The wider brim was also meant to serve as a vail, which hides the eye line when worn down but can be flipped up to reveal the wearer beneath. The main design aspect of this piece was keeping the brim at a relatively flush angle so it almost looks like a continuation of the rest of the hat. This look reminded me of a standing lamp I used to have in my room as a kid which I resonated with. My friend also mentioned the hat looks like a jellyfish which I thought was funny. These hats are made out of a powder blue chambray and natural linen to serve as a sun hat in the warmer months
