The Evening Jacket. This piece continues the theme of hand-dye experimentation I have been doing recently, like with the holiday shirt and shorts. With this jacket, I wanted to try something more subdued. The idea of using a complimenting dye color that provided contrast, while still highlighting the original fabric was something that I found interesting. I developed the design and colors of this jacket with that idea in mind. I decided to use Evening blue fabric dye as it shared a familiar resemblance to the house that neighbored my childhood home. The primary design detail of this piece is the hanging drop pockets that are only attached at the shoulder and side seam, which provides ease and flow to the garment. Other pieces of this garment that were dyed to achieve a contrasting look were the yoke and extended elbow patches. This jacket is constructed out of a lightweight plaid cotton, and finished with complimenting light blue buttons throughout.
