The Jiro Trousers. This completes the set I started last week with the Jiro Shirt. Like the shirt, these trousers are inspired by the character Jiro from my favorite Studio Ghibli film, The Wind Rises. I see a reflection of many of my creative desires and ambitions in Jiro, primarily due to his fascination with beauty and function. I wanted to make a set of clothing that feels like a weightless paper plane drifting through the open sky, which serves as an ode to the work that has been formative in my life. This was accomplished through the use of fabric and details. The trousers are made out of a crisp, but supple cotton shirting which has an interesting transparent grain. The primary details of these pants include deep-set front and back pleats, and tassels which accent the wearer in motion and allow for modularity. The front and back welt pockets are sewn directly into the waistband. These trousers also feature my first attempt at a hidden button fly and I have to say, I'm pleased with the result.
