The Reflection Jacket. This Jacket completes the set I started last week with the Reflection Trousers. Human anatomy has always been a thread of inspiration for my designs, but a trip to the MoMa last September brought it to the forefront when I saw the Stomach Apron by George Macunas. The Stomach Apron resonated with me, as I was obsessed with the idea of imposing human anatomy on a blank canvas. I applied this idea to my own work by creating a minimally designed jacket with buttons located at various anatomical landmarks. Panels were then hand-painted as a reflection of how I perceive my own form, which can be button fastened to the jacket. This representation of wearable art also acts as a mirror between two forms. One physical and one abstract. The desire of movement in the painted form is something that is enduring, even when the wearer or garment is at rest. This jacket can be worn in a variety of ways due to the modular button system, which also allows for the removable panels to be used as decorative wall hangings.
