The Lyndale Overshirt. This shirt serves as a representation of the progress I have made creatively and technically over the past year of work. Throughout the PAW* project, I have made pieces of clothing that were inspired by existing garments that typically have a more rugged, masculine, and grungy association. I would then reimagine them in a way that alleviated that obligation and instead presented them in a lighter, more inviting manner. I have already done this for a pair of army utility shorts and a leather biker vest. With the extended winter still holding on, it is hard to ignore the ubiquity of Hi-Vis work jackets found on workers throughout the city, which inspired this final piece. I replicated the iconic geometry of the 3M tape with crochet but arranged the chest in a way that resembled the facades typically found on South Minneapolis houses where I grew up. This shirt consists of many technical details I have taught myself over the past year, including a hidden button closure, collar stand, French sleeves, side seam pockets, and sleeve plackets. Though a year and 52 pieces removed from the beginning of PAW*, it feels reassuring knowing I'm only a step away from where it all started.
